Chocolate Milk, Couch Cuddles, Snow Shovels, & A Dining Room Take Over
Life on the road - making it work.
Welcome to The Nibbler by me, Jill Myer, a bi-weekly brief focusing on art, inspiration, creativity, snacks, and joy.
Hello, my Sweet Butter Cream Beauties,
Happy Tuesday!
Roxy and I are still on the road!
I’m currently in Colorado, and Roxy is with my parents in Montana, receiving the full grandogger treatment and being 122% spoiled!
Someone once told me that if they were ever reincarneated they wanted to come back as my dog.
They weren’t wrong, it’s a good life, but lets not lose signt of the fact that I learned how to pamper pets from Mother Trucker.
Roxy is living a good life!

I’ve been in MT for the last few weeks hanging with Mother Trucker so my dad could go on his annual trip to Cancun to see the band Phish, with 4,000 of his best friends.
(We don’t leave Mother Trucker home alone because she has a penchant for trying to burn down the house. And man, is she dedicated to her craft!)
Anyway.
Traveling long-term. I am grateful for this extended time with my people and grateful for the experience of new things, and over the moon excited for Roxy and her discovery of snow.
But home is nice too. And I’ll be so happy to be there once I am there again. I miss my friends and the gallery, my studio, and the smell of the wax heating up.

GLIMMER HUNTING…
Shoveling snow and budgeting time for generosity.
In my last post, I discussed budgeting money for generosity (you can read it here). But when living in a close-knit neighborhood, budgeting time for generosity feels just as good.
The community that forms when there is snow to be shoveled is soul-filling. I’ve missed this level of camaraderie that comes with living in a cold climate.
Each morning at about 7 am, the neighbors would all be out shoveling their walks.
When everyone is done with their walk, teams form to shovel the walks of those who aren’t home or physically can't manage the task. It’s a beautiful way to start the day—doing something valuable and worthwhile for someone else while getting a little cardio in is a win-win!
Other Glimmers
Visiting my favorite painting at the Dana Gallery in Missoula, spotting this cool sculpture in a cafe and starting a new knitting project.

IN MY STUDIO
A miscalculation of space.
The last time I spent significant time in MT, I commandeered my mom’s studio space on the enclosed front porch.
The lighting is fantastic, with windows on three sides. So, while I packed an art TUB for this trip, I didn’t think about where I would set up.
It’s February, and the front porch, while enclosed, is not heated.
I didn’t paint for the first week that I was here, and then my skin started to itch because when you gotta paint, you gotta paint. Also, I’ve got a few special commissions on the docket I planned to finish while here.
Ergo the dining room table.
I unearthed the table-extending leaf that only sees the light of day on Thanksgiving and made myself a space.
Dinner was held at the other end.
And I did finish both commissions!
I’d show you, but they are gifts, and I can’t have the recipients see them before they receive them.
Next time, I promise.
Do you see that little closet door behind the table?
That’s the best spot for a game of hide-and-seek in the whole house. It’s an under-the-stairs cupboard.
