Welcome to The Nibbler by me, Jill Myer, a bi-weekly brief focusing on art, inspiration, creativity, snacks, and joy.
Good morning, Nibblers,
Happy Tu-Tu-TUUUUESDAY!
It's been a wee bit heurkey-jerky for the past few weeks around here.
I've had many glorious and beautiful experiences that have filled me to overflowing. Yet, despite the beauty, one morning, I woke up at the bottom of my personal bog of despair.
It does not smell good.
This is an interesting place to be, writing to you after pulling myself out of the bog.
At its core, this newsletter is a vehicle for me to stay connected to you, all my friends, family, clients, customers who have become friends, and customers that I wish were my friends.
I connect with you via humor and a lot of swearing, which I also think is fucking hilarious - but I'm a real human person.
It's super hecking tempting to brush the last few days under the rug and pretend they didn't happen for the sake of selling cards and prints and maintaining a glittering facade of artisanal bliss and coastal living.
But that's not the truth, nor is it anyone's reality.
I certainly don't publish everything in my life, and I consider that basic privacy—so do I keep this ugly moment private, or do I publish it?
Since I'm typing and we're all here like an awkward Thanksgiving dinner, I've decided to publish because this week's blog is about being deliberate with your time, finding joy in the small moments, and making space for what you love.
The reality is you can do that and still have some breathtakingly low fucking moments.
Two things can be true at the same time.
I am grateful that my time in the bog was short-lived, and that I’m back on top of my own personal rainbow with a box of cookies.
And I'm oddly thankful for all the previous times in my life when it felt like the bottom had dropped out, sending me into an emotional free-fall with the wind rushing past my face so fast I couldn't breathe.
Those previous times have provided the experience of knowing how to claw my way out of the bog. Knowing that while I might not be able to see them, the beautiful moments exist and the feeling is temporary.
The other reason I'm publishing is that I think it's important to be real and to show up as me, to say publicly it's okay to have ups and downs - in case anyone out there also needs to hear it.
The more we acknowledge our humanity, the more authentically we can be ourselves, and the easier this thing called life is to get through.
Thank you for being here for all of it!
*Heurkey - Verb. A word I could have just made up. sounds like [her-key]

Make Space for What You Love & Share It.
I heard this quote the other day, and it sang to me!
“Life is better when you make space for what you love. This world can rob you of every ounce of happiness that you possess—if you let it.
Please, be intentional about giving yourself something to look forward to.
Please, remember to prioritize your joy. ”
— Michell C. Clark
It sang to me because I was like YES!!! I do this, I make space for what I love, I prioritize dog walks in the woods, painting in the garage, and spending time with the most lovely people on the planet.
I save my money for travel and tacos.
I eat cake on every occasion.
This quote made me feel like I am winning at life - I do the prescribed things!
Validation!
I patted myself on the back - rather forcefully.
And then later, THE SAME DAY, I saw this quote…..
