Showering with Octavius & Sitting in Stillness
I'd like to introduce you to my new life partner, Octavius Von Jesus That's a Lot of Legs!
Welcome to The Nibbler by me, Jill Myer, a bi-weekly brief focusing on art, inspiration, creativity, snacks, and joy.
Good morning, my Salty Snacks,
Happy Tuesday!
I am delighted to announce that I have a new life partner, and by delighted, I do mean absolutely horrified.
I’ve spoken to Octavius about possibly moving out; they have respectfully declined. Octavius looked at my offering of a pint glass and an oversized piece of junk mail as a new dwelling unit, laughed a creepy laugh that sounded like breaking glass and ran into a corner that I could not reach without a ladder and a better sense of self-preservation.
So we’ve come to an understanding.
I shall only shower when absolutely necessary.
And Octavius will remain quite still while I do this so that I don’t get soap in my eyes while attempting to maintain eye contact with all 37 giant fucking spider eyes.
The upside to Octavious living in my shower is that they are not living in my bed.
I hope.
ON THE BLOG / VLOG
Sitting in Stillness, Watching the World Float By
When was the last time you sat alone for a solid two hours outside without any interruptions or interactions?
A recommendation to do just that!
And some pretty photos.
MY CURRENT FAVORITE SNACK
Mmmmm!
It’s melon time!
I’m currently waiting for this sweet little darling to ripen up!
TODAY I LEARNED…
I appreciated this article so much, The Financial Case for Creativity.
It talks about the disconnect between making tangible things versus the churn of our daily lives, in which many of us work and work and have nothing to show for it in the end but a paycheck, and how that leaves the human soul wanting.
I think my favorite part was the final paragraph, which reads,
“I realize I’m veering awfully close to nostalgizing typhoid and outhouses. But if you’re feeling dysregulated in your consumer behavior, maybe the solution is pursuing the worthy inverse: not restriction, but generation. Restoring the balance between these two impulses requires reprogramming a scrambled signal; regaining a sense of discernment that when you feel most compelled to go searching and acquiring, what you might actually need is to create.” Katie Gatti Tassin, Money with Katy Podcast and Blog.
IN MY STUDIO
I’ve lost all focus and have been experimenting heavily with my printer and rice paper. I’ve discovered I can stuff it directly into the printer (the rice paper, that is, not my focus) and have it print edge to edge without a carrier page or without crumpling and buckling—don’t try this at home.
I was not in the best place emotionally when frustration bloomed in my heart with a white-hot furry that can only be rivaled by not being able to open a bag of chips fast enough.
I jammed the rice paper into my printer with a fuck-it attitude that was achieved via a sweaty peri-menopause-induced fever dream at 4 am.
But!
The results, if I do say to myself, are fun as shit!!
I made an Instagram reel about the full process. If you haven't used up your 20-minute Instagram limit yet, you can see it HERE.
These blocks are in the gallery, but if you are interested in one or two of them, please reply to this email.

SHOP
I have been working really hard, and by that, I mean I have been procrastinating for months now to load more prints into my shop.
I sincerely hope to have that done and ready for the next issue.
I am using the same level of desperate hope to ensure that Octavius is not living in my bed linens.
Paintings, prints, cards, and mini-card bundles are also available in the For ArtSake Gallery.
HAPPY TUESDAY!
