The Best Laid Plans are Scattered on the Floor Like a Costco Size Bag of Skittles That Were Opened With Frantic Desperation
Alternate Title: SKREEEWAAAAAA I am working at the speed of dial-up internet during a power outage, using my phone as a hot spot and it has 42% battery life.
Welcome to The Nibbler by me, Jill Myer, a bi-weekly brief focusing on art, inspiration, creativity, snacks, and joy.
Good morning, Nibblers
I am writing to you on day three of a three-day power outage after a rather robust ice storm.
To be completely forthright, the power has come back on, I have showered with hot water, and our home is warming up nicely, but the internet is still down.
Once the power came back on, we loaded the food from the outdoor kitchen (that I set up because the food was melting in the nonoperational refrigerator, and pro tip: you shouldn’t cook with a propane camp stove inside) back into the fridge and put our house back together after locating headlamps, candles, and all of our old Alaskan outerwear.
I realized it was Monday.
And the Nibbler is due tomorrow (your today), and I should sort that out.
**This is all to say that this isn’t going to be much of a Nibbler.**
It’s taking ages for the pages to load, and forget about adding photos
(You get one photo, and I’m not sorry).
(I’m a little sorry there are more photos I’d love to share, maybe next week).
Do any of you remember the SKREEEWAAAAAA of dial-up internet?
That’s what my brain is doing as I’m trying to force my laptop to function.
I’m 100% certain I’m not doing it out loud.
I’m not sure why the dog keeps looking at me.
There was a road. Technically, it still is, but it’s not passable. It was one heck of an ice storm.
Anyway, onto the most feeble, hobbled, limped along Nibbler that evet Nibbled…
ON THE BLOG / VLOG
I Had a Plan…
I had a plan for the blog I wanted to share with you today. Well, I have two simmering on the back burner of my brain.
Blog Post #1
The gallery had an exceptionally slow fall/winter…
Let me walk that back. Oh, a little further.
*I* had an exceptionally slow fall/winter in the gallery (the gallery did just fine), so I’ve had time to play and experiment with new techniques in my garage studio vs. scrambling to keep my section of a wall full of paintings.
This has been fun, and I am excited to show off some terrible art, which I’m okay making in the spirit of experimentation.
However.
I have had to manage the emotional tidal wave of realizing the gallery did just fine - it was my art that was not just fine.
Did it change?
Did I change?
Is it bad?
Was it ever good?
Are people bored with it?
It’s a lot to unpack, and I am willing to do that here with you, but not today with phone internet.
So…to be continued.
Blog post #2
I haven’t discussed or given much air time to the fact that I got a job. I mean, see Blog Post #1 for all the reasons, but there are life lessons in all of this, and I’ve learned much that I’d like to share.
But also…to be continued at a time when I have the emotional, mental, and interweb bandwidth to do so.
MY FAVORITE SNACK
I’ve eaten more Peanut M&M’s in the last three days than any human should have access to, let alone consume.
Dammat Costco!
TODAY ROXY LEARNED
How to get onto furniture
Roxy is the best dog of all the dogs; she is such a good girl that even though we have repeatedly invited her onto the couch, she will not do it.
It’s just not done in good dog culture.
However, amid a power outage in a house with no alternate heat source, she quickly learned to be a couch dog.
A good dog must keep her furless humans warm.
- Silly humans, going around without fur.
We turned our sectional couch into a giant square couch/bed and filled it with all the blankets in the house. Then we camped in the couch/bed for three days.
You can tell by her expression she is not impressed with us and requests we grow our own fur ASAP!
Oh, a third photo!!
How lucky are all of you?!
Also, this photo does NOTHING to convey how cold my nose was in this photo.
