Well-Worn Walking Shoes & Densely Overgrown Thought Trails
Discovering a well-worn, heavily trodden path in my thinking/decision-making processes.
Welcome to The Nibbler by me, Jill Myer, a bi-weekly brief focusing on art, inspiration, creativity, snacks, and joy.
Good morning, Nibblers!
Happy Tuesday!
I had the most lovley weekend!
I knit with friends, Matt and I went out to dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant, and I went to a figure drawing session at the local Visual Arts Center.
I haven’t worked with charcoal and newsprint in many, many moons. Hence, the nostalgia was the draw (get it, draw, hehe) that interested me initially. However, drawing with other artists and seeing how we all saw the model just a little bit differently brought me so much joy.
It also felt good to engage in my community this way - forgive me if that sounds trite, but here I am, Trity McTritery Pants, doing the Trite Shuffle down the road to my local arts center and loving every minute!

Well-Worn Walking Shoes and Densly Overgrown Thought Trails
I've had to laugh at myself a few times recently, and I invite you to laugh along with me.
I've discovered a well-worn, heavily trodden groove in my thinking/decision-making processes.
And once I noticed it, I kept seeing it.
I understand that our brains make these types of categorizations and decisions, lock them in, and then rarely revisit the decision to avoid expending energy on making the same mundane decision repeatedly each day.
But also -
Come on!!
It would be handy if these were reevaluated periodically.
For example:
My daily dog walking shoes are worn out and broken down. I was thinking that I need new ones because while I don't care what they look like, my feet are beginning to ache due to the lack of support. I was lamenting the purchase of a new pair of shoes that I am going to quickly destroy because of the sheer number of miles, sand, mud, and muck Roxy and I tromp through each day.
Then, in one of those unguarded zoned-out moments, I thought to myself
- oh wait….

MY FAVORITE SNACK
Sourdough Bread!
I’ve heard rumors that people with gluten sensitivity could get away with eating sourdough bread. Something about the fermentation process breaking down the proteins in the gluten. In my personal experience, nothing tastes good enough to risk getting sick over, so I’ve not been brave enough to try it.
But then I was offered some from another gluten-sensitive soul. I tried it, and I didn’t get sick. So, like any true mad scientist, I ran more experiments. On myself. Still not getting sick, and with encouragement and links to super helpful video tutorials from Khara Ledonne, I decided to try to make my own.
I am so excited to present LaVerne my sourdough bread levan. She bakes the most beautiful loaves of bread, and they taste amazing!
I used a culture from Culturesforhealth.com and I watched these videos by professional baker Jennifer Latham at least 42,000 times each.
TODAY I LEARNED
About an app called Goblin Tools
My favorite is - The Formalizer.
Go poke around for a few minutes, and let me know your thoughts. I think it’s quite clever.
